In 2006 the city of Eindhoven, the city where the Philips Company was born in 1891, realized the first Dutch Festival of Light. This festival is an international exhibition of art and design installations in public space which makes use of light as a material, a medium and as an object. The first edition received more than 50 000 visitors, both, Eindhoven´s citizens and visitors from outside the country. The project was a complete success and that is why the decision of continuing the Festival was taken.

The industry of architectural lighting design is in the beginning of its history, lighting design is just getting together all the elements that had already shown how powerful light is when it is applied with knowledge and attention.

To establish a relationship between light, composition and architecture through contemporary glass design is the main objective of the First International Symposium of Contemporary Art Glass Design for Mexican Architecture. “Building the Light” is going to take place the 24th and 25th of October in the Faculty of Architecture in The National Autonomous Mexican University (UNAM). The symposium will offer a series of conferences and workshops with international renowned artists that will be introduced by Kischi Hentschel (Taller de Vidrio), Wilhelm Derix(Derix Glasstudio),  Stephan Lamberts (Glashutte Lamberts).

For the fourth time Luminale 2008 be taking place at the same time as Light+Building. In 2006 there were 178 different lighting projects and 158 events, both in Frankfurt am Main and in the region between the Rhine valley and Karlsruhe Wiesbaden and Aschaffenburg.
