The city of Gwangju,
Korea, was this year's venue for the LUCI (Lighting Urban Community
International) annual meeting. The meeting, which was held
last year in San Luis Potosí, Mexico (see note below), is considered to be the
most important event in the world of urban lighting design.
During the month of October
the attending members of LUCI were able to appreciate the innovations the city
has seen by implementing luminous technologies that boosted its urban and
economic development.
Gustavo Avilés, member of
the association was present in Gwanju. He presented to the international
community the urban architectonic master plan for the city of Taxco de Alarcón,
a mining town located in the center of Mexico. He informed that the first stage
of this project has been concluded which triggered a great number of positive
comments.
After a complete
presentation of the project Taxco was named city
of light to the delight of its citizens who are committed to respecting and
encouraging the principles of correct urban illumination. With this appointment
Taxco finds itself at the top of the list when it comes to design and urban development
principles
The Taxco Project had been
recognized by the INAH (National Anthropology and HIstory Institute), an
institution in charge of classifying, protecting and maintaining Mexican
patrimony. The master plan was proposed under the INAH's strict guidelines for those
working with their protected properties.
The efforts carried out
for this Project express lighting as a guiding axis in decisions and criteria
that are a part of developing and restructuring an urban image.
