DAB is a young internationally known company. Always searching for luxury in simplicity, evoking authenticity, purity. Believing that we do not need a lot of everything, but just a little, with higher quality. David Abad visited Lighteam and we had the chance to ask him a few questions.

Why do you work with Light? Why did you choose light as an element of expression?

Light is what gives a space its form, light is creative, it can even intimidate or give fear, it can createalmost everything. I like to do new products because they can invent new atmospheres.

What inspires your designs?

Anything really, from nature to any container, but we are more pragmatic, inspiration comes from human necessities. There is also a poetic side in  inspiration, when we take as inspiration anything that is organic, also architecture itself and the natural daylight we found in places around the world.  

Tell us about the DAB catalogue because it has a unique urban presentation.

What we tried to do with this catalogue was to give DAB a personality, a fresh image, because the people that work in DAB are young people.  It was impossible to make something ordinary; it is a challenge to get better in every aspect. We want to do a better catalogue next time, and obligate ourselves to work harder.  The catalogue design, the same as our products design, is the result of the many trends that ca be found in Barcelona, also in the city’s architecture.  Barcelona inspire us all the time, and we are teachers at university so we are in constant contact with the new ideas of young people. Barce is a great place to do what we do. We gave images a great importance in the catalogue because it is the tool for us to sale our products.  

If DAB was a restaurant, which will be the most important ingredients to cook its unique personality?

Human relationships. DAB is not a conventional company, we do not have the figure of a bad boss that tell us what to do, we work together with the concern of making this business  a success and making the project grow. We are a team that works really hard. We have had bad moments, but we are recovered now because of the team work.  Because of our work we have gain our suppliers confidence and respect , they know we do well our job  and that makes us feel really proud.  People believe in our project, they even  admire our company. 

How do you visualize DAB´s  future, lets say in five years?

The immediate future for DAB is to continue working in the same direction, in a further time, we want to develop investigation to create unique products with new materials and technology. We also want to make alliances with other designers to make up new ideas.  

Which is your favorite product?

It is difficult to choose, they are like sons for me. There are two families of designs that I like very much: Marc and Ilde and there is a new product which I love, it is a small lamp that is called “Dear Edi” in honor of Thomas Alva Edison.
