To establish a relationship between light, composition and architecture through contemporary glass design is the main objective of the First International Symposium of Contemporary Art Glass Design for Mexican Architecture. “Building the Light” is going to take place the 24th and 25th of October in the Faculty of Architecture in The National Autonomous Mexican University (UNAM). The symposium will offer a series of conferences and workshops with international renowned artists that will be introduced by Kischi Hentschel (Taller de Vidrio), Wilhelm Derix(Derix Glasstudio), Stephan Lamberts (Glashutte Lamberts).
Alexander Beleschenko (Great Britain), Micheal Vetter (Austria/Mex), Karl Heinz Traut (Germany), Narcissus Quagliata (EUA), Carlos Muñoz de Pablos (Spain), Jose Castrillo (Spain), Carlos Muñoz de Pablos (Spain) and Martin Donlin (Great Britain) are some of the speakers that will be gathered for this unique event.
Wilhelm Derix is the director of Derix Glasstudios, a pioneer studio in the reproduction of graphic art into glass that has been in the business since 1866. Derix Glasstudio has innovated the work with glass. Their work includes the use of alternate materials and techniques like adhesives for laminating glass, leading, painting, airbrushing, etching, photoprinting, sandblasting, and fusing among other techniques.
Kischi Hentschel is a Mexican glass artist that owns “Taller de Vidrio”, a glass studio that works all kinds of artistic projects in glass. The architects, graphic and interior designers that work in Taller de Vidrio experiment the transformation of spaces with the application of stained glass in architectural atmospheres.
Stephan Lamberts is member of a family that has made genuine antique glass for more than 70 years. His glass studio, The Glashuette Lamberts in Waldsassen, Germany, is one of the few remaining production sites of handcrafted, mouthblown sheet glasses in the world.
