The X "Encuentro Internacional de Revitalización de Centros Históricos" will be held from the 24th to the 28th of october in the Centro Cultural de España in Mexico City and the Centro Cultural Santo Domingo in Oaxaca City. This event, which addresses conservation, preservation an enhancement issues of historic downtowns, will be celebrating 10 years of gathering national and international experts that are actively engaged in these activities. The goal of this event is to provide a forum to interpret, analyze and share experiences in dealing with historic downtowns through different approaches.
This year's main theme is "Lights and Shadows in the Historic Downtowns" noting that illumination of monuments and historic areas has been an important factor to either enhance or impair the value of such urban elements. Shying away from the promotion of stage lighting that is worringly becoming an attractive instrument to intervene buildings and monuments of historic importance, this event seeks to foster an illumination of downtowns that recognizes the historic and social caracteristics of its buildings and monuments and hopes to contribute to consolidate the identity of historic downtowns and better the environmental quality to develop social activities.
Gustavo Avilés, head of lighteam, has been invited to participate in this event. In his conference he will be presenting the lighting masterplans that have been developed for Taxco de Alarcón and San Luis Potosí, and the lighting proyect for the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City and the San Juan de Ulúa fortress. Having Oaxaca City as one of the conference's scenarios, Gustavo Avilés will showcase the masterplan that lighteam is currently generating for this city.
